Peter’s journey to find love on The Bachelor continues tonight, but the roses will have to wait until tomorrow since more importantly, the College Football National Championship is tonight with an incredible matchup between LSU and Clemson. The storylines this year to get to the natty for both teams have been incredible and this game should be amazing tonight.
LSU has had one of the most impressive seasons ever this year. Led by Joe Burrow, a transfer quarterback who couldn’t get the starting job at Ohio State came into Baton Rouge and put up the best season in the history of college football on his way to easily winning the Heisman this season. After blowing out Oklahoma, who clearly wasn’t even in the same conversation as LSU, Clemson and Ohio State, LSU has now beaten six Top 10 teams at the time they played them. I know how bad the defense is in the BIG 12 and Oklahoma being an exception to that, but throwing for seven touchdowns and scoring 49 points in the first half of a College Football Playoff game is beyond insane. LSU was able to turn Joe Burrow into a legitimate super star that has been a blast to watch the entire season as he surpassed Cam Newton at Auburn for the most impressive season ever. Their defense has been decent as well this year and LSU is a legitimate title contender this year. Burrow’s the #1 NFL pick in this upcoming draft and I expect him to ball out tonight in front of LSU’s home fans in New Orleans.
Defending champs, Clemson comes into the National Title game for their third time in four years. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the best college football player since Andrew Luck and since coming out as a freshman, everyone has known that he’s next year’s first overall NFL pick. He’s incredible and has a 25-0 record as a starter. The kid’s never lost a game. Dabo’s the best coach in the country who’s not named Nick Saban, by far. After letting Ohio State get a 16-0 lead to start their playoff game a few weeks ago, Clemson was impressive in coming back to win that game 29-23. The team barely has any flaws. The defense is fantastic, Travis Etienne is one of the best running backs in the nation and it’s almost impossible to pick against this Clemson team to win the natty.
At the beginning of the year, Clemson was my pick to win the national title, but now after rooting hard for LSU the entire year, I actually think Joe Burreaux comes out and finds a way to give Trevor Lawrence his first loss and cap off the perfect season. New Orleans is a crazy city and they sure love their LSU Tigers so the “neutral” site of the Superdome that’s pretty much a home game will give them enough of an edge to get past Clemson.
LSU is the betting favorite in this game at -4.5. I’m personally not going to bet this since I do think Clemson does keep this game pretty close. I think both offenses will roll and score a good amount but it’s tough to bet an over as high as 66.5. So I’m personally going to stay off this game on all sides and just watch it for fun.
