Sabres Playoffs vs. Bruins – Game 5: 4/28/26 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight in the tightest game of this series, Buffalo played well, but the Bruins played with desperation, extending the series back to Boston with a 2-1 overtime loss for the Sabres at home.

The captain, Rasmus Dahlin, got a cross ice pass, getting a rebound and firing it into the net just 3:34 into the game, FINALLY ending the power play drought for the Sabres, scoring our first goal on the power play in over a month. Huge goal! High flying fun period of hockey to start this game off, and huge to get the monkey off the back on the power play. Overall, I thought Boston was the better team through that 20 minutes, but we played well and have the lead. Let’s keep rolling in the second.

The Sabres looked good early in the second period, but the Bruins tied it up with 10:36 left in the second with Elias Lindholm firing it on the net with some poor defense in front and a shot going off Zucker’s skate, off the pipe and in the net with Lyon screened. Just too much chaos going on there defensively for the Sabres. Boston pressed in that second period, playing with desperation to not get eliminated, and they were definitely the better team through it, tying the game up. We did have some good chances, but couldn’t capitalize. Huge third period coming up.

Buffalo poured it on in the third period, getting some huge chances to win it, but we head onto overtime. Carry that momentum into OT and let’s end this series!

We had a ton of great chances to get the win in OT, but David Pastrnak got off on a breakaway and after getting stuffed on two breakaways in Game 1, he ended it for the Bruins, taking this series back to Boston for Game 5.

FINAL: Sabres 1, Bruins 2 (OT)

Sabres lead series 3-2

I thought we played well tonight, Lyon was great in goal, making key saves with 27 saves on the 29 shots he saw. Swayman was just better. The Sabres got outshot 29-26, but we had 24 scoring chances to Boston’s 20. This was a very tight game throughout that had me on the edge of my seat from puck drop till Pasta’s winner went in the net. The refs didn’t help us at all, missing several calls that should’ve put the Sabres ln the power play tonight, which we finally scored on for Dahlin’s goal, the first time in over a month that we’ve capitalized 5 on 4. Which was great to see. Man this sucks though to lose this one. The toughest win of a series is the last one to end it, and the Bruins made it tough from start to finish for the Sabres tonight. Gotta close this one out in Boston on Friday.

See you Friday night!

Let’s Go Buffalo!!!
