Another horrendous game for the Sabres again, this time as the series shifted to Montreal tonight for Game 3, an awful game, losing 6-2 on the road to fall down 2-1 in the second round.
The Sabres got the lead fast, just 53 seconds into the game, with a missed shot by Rasmus Dahlin going right to Tage to tap it into the empty net. Huge goal, especially after how bad he was in Game 2. The Habs got a ton of great chances, and Lyon kept coming up with huge saves as we were getting dominated, but with 4:29 left in the first, Alex Newhook fired a rebound in to tie up the game. We’re getting worked again. Garbage period by the Sabres and we were lucky to have a tied game and not be down multiple goals. Montreal will get the chance to get the lead quickly in the second, with Rasmus Dahlin taking a penalty as the first ended.
The Habs finally took the lead on the power play, 6:05 into the second period, with Cole Caufield going to the slot after an unreal individual play from Lane Hutson to set it up. That was bound to happen. After a goal didn’t count for the Habs on goaltender interference, Zach Bolduc made it 3-1 Montreal with 9:17 left in the second, as he beat both Tuch and Thompson in front. Domination. Holy shit we look horrendous. On the power play after Malenstyn flew into Dobes, Juri Slafkovsky tipped in a shot from Hutson over Alex Lyon’s shoulder to make it 4-1 with 7:44 left in the second. Let’s just get to 5-1 and hit the over again. God we suck. Two games in a row of not even touching the puck. The Sabres finally scored on the power play with a perfect shot off the pipe and in from Rasmus Dahlin to make it 4-2. At least its a sign of life.
The Sabres looked a bit better to start the third period, actually moving the puck niocley, but with 11:14 left, Montreal made it 5-2 as Kirby Dach took a rebound through Lyon and into the net for an easy goal after a missed shot on a two on one. The Habs added an “empty netter” with 4:46 left with Dahlin hooking the breakaway attempt to award Montreal the goal.
FINAL: Sabres 2, Canadiens 6
Canadiens lead series 2-1
We’ve gotten completely dominated for two games in a row. Our defense was absolutely awful, and our offense got next to nothing going with just a goal from Tage 53 seconds in and a power play goal by Dahlin. We couldn’t even possess the fucking puck or keep it in the Habs zone. Shockingly, even giving up five goals, I did think Lyon was pretty good. The game should’ve been a blowout in the first period, but he kept us in there until everything completely fell apart. Just so bad. Habs are probably gonna win this series in five. It was a fun year. Gotta figure something out Game 4, or it’s completely over.
