In a pathetic Game 2 tonight at home after a magical comeback to win Game 1, the Sabres looked awful, especially UPL as the Bruins tied the series with a 4-2 Buffalo loss that was way worse than that score.
I thought it was a pretty good first period, we just couldn’t get a whole lot done with the refs calling stupid penalties on us. Both teams had some solid chances, and the penalty kill was good as we killed off four straight minutes of bullshit penalties. Our issue again though was the power play looking bad when the Bruins took penalties. Couldn’t get anything going 5 on 4.
The Bruins scored first again after some nice chances for the Sabres, with Victor Arvidsson getting a step ahead two of the Sabres defenseman, making it 1-0 Boston on a slow backhander past UPL, 4:53 into the second period. Morgan Geekie threw the puck at the net as he was going off for a change at center ice, UPL came out to grab the puck for what should’ve been a routine save, it bounced right over his glove and into the goal with absolutely no one around him, for a pathetic goal as the Bruins went up 2-0 with 3:31 left in the second. That might be the worst goal I’ve ever seen. Cannot believe that went in. Embarrassing. With 1:51 left in the second period and Tage in the box, Pavel Zacha right in the slot redirected a hard pass from Pasta to go up 3-0. We’re playing bad tonight, just undisciplined hockey, and it doesn’t help how fucking soft the first two goals UPL let in were.
Didn’t take long after the third started and 16 seconds into it on a two on one, Victor Arvidsson scored to make it 4-0. Unbelievable. With that goal, Lindy pulled UPL and put in Lyon, who I didn’t even think was available as the backup tonight. Should’ve put him in to start the third. Logan Stanley fought Mark Kastelic and the rest of the period was pretty physical, with a bunch of fighting. The Sabres finally got on the board with 6:06 to go in regulation on a shot by Bowen Byram from up top, making it 4-1. With the net empty, Payton Krebs made it 4-2 just 1:14 later, just knocking at Swayman until it went in the net. The Sabres made a good push to try to make it closer late, but fall way short.
FINAL: Sabres 2, Bruins 4
Series Tied 1-1
What a pathetic game. I cannot believe how soft those first two goals that UPL let up that completely changed the game. That second goal from center ice was probably the worst goal I’ve ever seen a goalie give up in the playoffs. Just embarrassing. After needing to make magic late in Game 1, you can’t do that two games in a row in the fucking playoffs. It doesn’t work. We were shut out for 106 minutes of this series and have led for three minutes, so honestly we’re lucky to have even split these two home games. The refs didn’t do us any favors, but can’t blame that. Our fucking power play hasn’t scored in a month. It’s ridiculous. Boston dominated tonight.
No more home ice advantage in this series. Gotta find a way to win one of these next two games in Boston and not dig ourselves into a 3-1 series deficit, especially with what it took to get that first round.
God, tonight sucked.
Let’s Go Buffalo.
